Many things bring sweetness in life. First sound of newborn is sweet. A smile on a kids face is sweet. A mother taking care of her baby is sweet. A wife trying to arrange things for her husband is sweet. So, when sweetness is talked one could not restrict his imaginations. But when we talk about honey, this sweetens our anticipation of the recipe that would be having it as one of its ingredient. Honey is a natural sweetening agent produced by honeybee. It is directly taken from honeycomb. Now a days many companies have honey production of their own and they sell it under their brand name as people now cannot go to forest and enjoy fresh and natural honey so companies do it for them.

Honey has its many health benefits. Either taken alone or in recipes, honey is very good for reasons:

  • Honey has a good carbohydrate content that is easily and quickly absorbed by body, hence is treated as energy booster
  • The people who are watching their diet and want to reduce weight without compromising with taste use honey
  • Honey is act as a health supplement to strengthen immunity system against certain health problems and weather change
  • Honey has certain elements that prevent cancer and tumor formation in the body
  • Anti-oxidants in honey helps to maintain a youthful look
  • Honey is known to be good for fungal and bacterial infections
  • It is used for the relieving of arthritis pain
  • Honey keeps external wounds clean and infection free
  • Its anti-inflammatory properties help in swelling, pain and scarring of wounds, burn and cut
  • Honey remedies hangover caused by excessive alcohol intake
  • Honey is excellent for sore throats. It is the best known treatment for cough when used with ginger extracts
  • Honey is also known for its medicinal value for treating insomnia. Drinking hot milk with honey can induce sleep
  • Honey is improves digestion and hence good for constipation

There is much debate on health benefits of honey. Some are backed by scientific tests and theories and others are just followed as the traditional treatment. But even after these debate one thing is for sure that honey is a very good sweetening agent and have many qualities. Honey even if taken in excess would not harm anybody. So, just because we don’t know much about its health benefits why should we not eat it? Find your own reasons for eating honey.
